Workshop on Employment Creation and Sustainable Reintegration for Return Migrant Workers

Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF), with support from the ILO Reintegration for Migrant Workers Project, successfully organized a workshop on December 23, 2024, at MCCI’s Conference Hall, Dhaka. This workshop aimed to address the critical challenges and opportunities associated with the reintegration of return migrant workers into the workforce. The discussions focused on evaluating existing employment opportunities, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and developing actionable strategies to ensure the sustainable reintegration of migrant workers into the economy.

The chief guest, Mr. Md. Saiful Haque Chowdhury, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment (MoEWOE), and special guest, Tahmid Ahmed, Vice-President of BEF, shared insightful speeches at the inauguration session of the workshop. The workshop sessions were moderated by Mr. Asif Ayub, Joint Secretary-General, BEF. A total of 29 participants (23 male & 6 female) attended the workshop representing government officials from MoEWOE, BMET, RAISE Project, WEWB, PKB, SME Foundation, PKSF, private sector representatives from BEF member organizations, and CSOs such as OKUP, MJF, WARBE, BNSK, Helvetas Bangladesh along with development partners like ILO and UNDP.

The workshop served as a platform to align efforts among stakeholders, share best practices, and explore coordination mechanisms for creating meaningful employment opportunities that match the skills and aspirations of returnees. Emphasis was placed on the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to address challenges and support long-term socio-economic development of the return migrant workers.
