BEF Organized “Legal Clinic” on Labour Laws of Bangladesh and International Labour Standards (ILS) in Dhaka

Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF), in collaboration with Labour Administration and Working Condition Cluster (LAWC) of the ILO Country Office for Bangladesh, organized a Legal Clinic on Thursday, 28 August 2025, at 3:00 p.m. The session was hosted at the MCCI office in Motijheel, Dhaka, and also facilitated ONLINE via Zoom. This initiative was supported under the Team Europe Initiative (TEI) – a joint effort of the European Union, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden – on Decent Work in Bangladesh.

The Legal Clinic aimed to create a platform for discussion and exchange on issues relating to the Bangladesh Labour Act (BLA) and International Labour Standards (ILS). The event brought together officers of BEF member-firms engaged in labour law, labour administration, industrial relations, human resources, and occupational health & safety.

Mr. Muhammad Habibur Rahman, Assistant Secretary-General (Legal Affairs) of BEF, facilitated the session. Participants from member firms actively engaged in discussions covering key topics such as the formation and registration of trade unions, termination procedures, resignation processes, leave entitlements, stoppage of work, and other relevant provisions under the BLA and the Bangladesh Labour Rules (BLR).

A total of 52 participants attended the clinic, including 48 male and 4 female, representing HR, Administration, Compliance, and Legal departments of BEF member organizations.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Ms. Rukshana Yasmin Arzoo, Senior Programme Officer, SD/IR-CB, ILO Dhaka.
