The Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF), in collaboration with the Labour Administration and Working Conditions (LAWC) Cluster of the ILO Country Office for Bangladesh, organized an online Legal Clinic via Zoom on 28 July 2026.

The initiative was supported under the Team Europe Initiative (TEI) on Decent Work in Bangladesh — a joint effort of the European Union, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

The session provided a platform for discussion and exchange on issues relating to the Bangladesh Labour Act (BLA) and International Labour Standards (ILS), bringing together officers of BEF member firms working in labour law, labour administration, industrial relations, human resources, and occupational health & safety.

Mr. Muhammad Habibur Rahman, Assistant Secretary-General (Legal Affairs), BEF, facilitated the session. Participants discussed the legal framework for calculating maternity benefits under the amended Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, and exchanged practical experiences on applying the relevant provisions relating to the definition of wages.

Ms. Rukshana Yasmin Arzoo, Senior Programme Officer of the LAWC Cluster, ILO Country Office for Bangladesh, attended the event.

The Legal Clinic also examined the legal and practical implications of the recent amendment removing the Department of Labour’s supervision of trade union elections, as well as the newly inserted Section 61A concerning workplace discipline. Participants shared practical experiences and best practices from their respective enterprises on both issues.

A total of 61 participants (46 male and 15 female) — representing the HR, Administration, Compliance, and Legal Departments of BEF member organizations — joined the event.
