BEF”s Legal Unit and ILO Country Office for Bangladesh, jointly organized and conducted a two-days long training session on “Bangladesh Labour Act (BLA) and International Labour Standards (ILS)” which was held on 18-19 December, 2024, at MCCI Office, Police Plaza Concord, Tower 2, Level 6, Gulshan 1, Dhaka. The overall objective of the training was to enhance participants’ understanding on the rights and responsibilities of the parties concerned under the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006 and relevant International Labour Standards (ILS).
On the Day 1, Mr. Saidul Islam, Additional Secretary-General, BEF welcomed the participants to the event. Thereafter, Chayanich Thamparipattra, Project Technical Officer, International Labour Organization (ILO), Dhaka Office, conducted the session where she provided an overview of relevant international labour standards including child labour, forced labour, freedom of association, collective bargaining and industrial relations.
On the Day 2, the session was conducted by Muhammad Habibur Rahman, Assistant Secretary General, Legal Affairs, BEF where he delivered an in depth understanding on Bangladesh Labour Act claritying certain thematic areas such as; conditions of employment and service, disciplinary proceedings, termination, retrenchment, resignation and end service benefits along with other collateral issues.
The program attracted a diverse group of total 32 participants (Female-08 and Male-24) representing Employers, Corporate Leaders, Business Membership Organizations (EBMOs), Persons involved in legal compliance and Export Oriented Industries. An active participation from all has been noted. The program was moderated by Mr. Joha Jamilur Rahman, Head of Training, BEF.
